MALLORCA, Spain – A new event for the cycling industry will gather senior leaders, HR professionals, communications experts, and decision-makers to address the gender equity gap in the cycling workforce. The first event in the Summit Series being held in Mallorca, 25-27 March will also discuss how the cycling industry can attract, support and develop more women.
“Senior leaders in the bicycle industry are overwhelmingly white, heterosexual men” and “women and those from minority groups are more likely to leave the industry” – these were key findings from a ‘Diversity in the Cycling Industry Perception Survey’ Report published by the Bicycle Association in 2023. Now, this first event in the Summit Series aims to support the industry as it implements change, by equipping attendees with the tools, knowledge, and data to create tangible, sustainable impact. “It’s a way for anyone to learn first-hand how to recruit and retain women within their organisations and the wider industry,” explains organiser April Marshke, of Outside Advice.
Program highlights
Hosted by Outside Advice, in partnership with Cycling Industries Europe’s Women in Cycling Expert Group, and BikeBusinessHUB, the event is aiming to drive the cycling industry toward greater inclusivity. Voices in sport, diversity, and workforce development are part of the programme, including Claudia Glass, founder of Swijin, who will explain the value – social, economic and cultural – of real representation in product development. Julie Cornelius of World Ride will showcase her work developing a network of female mountain bike guides in unexpected places.
SRAM will present a panel Discussion and explain how it has developed a talent pipeline for women in engineering, helped launch new careers and increased the number of applications for technical roles from women. In addition sport industry experts, Laura and Chris Marsh, will present a case study with valuable insights about how to foster inclusivity and community through sport.
